The Educational Values Included in English Workbooks for the Higher Basic School in Jordan

This study aims at examining the educational values included in the English workbooks for the higher basic school in Jordan. Adopting the „sentence‟ as a unit of analysis, the research sample of this study consists of all the activities encountered in the English workbooks in 2017/2018. In light of the general framework of school curricula in Jordan, 36 values to be included in the subject workbooks are found to be spiritual, economic, societal, and aesthetic/environmental; the spiritual aspect is found to be the most frequent one (N=137, 42%). In specific, the most frequent educational values were spiritual for the tenth grade (18%), societal and economic for the eighth grade (15% and 8% respectively) and aesthetic/environmental for the ninth grade (4%).
