AI Policy

Purpose of This Policy

Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies are increasingly used across research and academic publishing. IJEE recognizes the genuine value these tools can offer helping researchers work more efficiently, organize ideas, and improve the clarity of their writing. At the same time, the journal is committed to preserving the integrity, originality, and human accountability that scholarly publishing depends on. This policy sets out clear expectations for authors, reviewers, and editors regarding the use of AI tools throughout the manuscript lifecycle. IJEE will continue to monitor developments in AI and will revise this policy as technologies, standards, and best practices evolve.

Permitted Use Authors may use generative AI and AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation, but strictly to improve the language, clarity, and readability of their writing. This may include correcting grammar, refining sentence structure, and improving the overall flow of the text.

Prohibited Use AI tools must not be used to:

• Generate original scientific, literary, or educational content, findings, or conclusions
• Analyze or interpret data
• Produce scientific, critical, or pedagogical insights on the author's behalf
• Replace the author's own critical thinking, expertise, or judgment

AI tools may support the author's process, but they cannot substitute for it.

Human Oversight All AI-assisted output must be reviewed, verified, and edited by the author before submission. Authors remain fully responsible and accountable for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their entire manuscript, regardless of which tools were used in its preparation.

Mandatory Disclosure Authors who use generative AI or AI-assisted tools at any stage of manuscript preparation must disclose this use in a dedicated statement, titled "Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process," placed at the end of the manuscript, immediately before the references. The declaration should include:

• The name of the tool(s) used
• The version and developer/manufacturer of the tool
• A brief description of how and where the tool was used

Basic use of standard grammar, spelling, or citation-management tools does not require disclosure.

Data Visualizations AI tools may only be used to assist in creating data visualizations when the visual output is directly and verifiably derived from the underlying data, using reproducible analytical or statistical methods. Any such use must be reported in the Methods section, including the name, version, and developer of the tool used.

Images and Figures Generative AI must not be used to create, alter, enhance, obscure, move, remove, or introduce any feature within an image or figure submitted as part of a manuscript.

Authorship AI tools cannot be listed as an author or co-author of any manuscript submitted to IJEE. Authorship requires the capacity to take responsibility for the work, approve its final version, and be accountable for its accuracy and integrity, responsibilities that can only be held by a human contributor.
