English is the primary business language and it has become almost a need for
people to speak English if they are to enter a global workforce, research from all over the world
shows that cross-border business communication is most often conducted in English. Its
importance in the global market place therefore cannot be understated, learning English really
can change your life. This project provides two major functions. The first function of this paper
is to offer an alternative to the more traditional teaching pedagogy currently used in the ESL
classroom. Theatre- based activities, such as playwriting and improvisation, have been positively
linked to many linguistic and non-linguistic aspects of language acquisition such as self-esteem,
intrinsic motivation, and self-confidence. It is also providing space for students to use the
language – particularly in circumstances where they’re guaranteed success and encourage
confidence in students.
