Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review the literature with direct instruction (DI) reading and
its effectiveness to develop reading acquisition with English language learners (ELL) with learning
disabilities. This paper provided an overview of DI materials and teaching procedures, learning
disabilities (LD), and English language learners (ELL) with LD. From the literature examined the author
concluded that DI has been an effective method to teach ELL students with LD to improve their reading
skills.
