Abstract

Though Poetry is considered one of the major genres in English Language Teaching (ELT), it seems that some teachers rarely admit, or seriously take, the role of using it in teaching language. The possible question here is: to what extent and depth does poetry take in teaching languages, English, in particular? The researchers have distributed a questionnaire among (20) male and female students in the Foundation Year (FY) at the Preparatory Studies Centre - University of Technology and Applied Sciences- Sultanate of Oman. What the researchers have found is: utilizing poetry in teaching language has a great effect on students’ academic and personal lives. Discussion, explanation, and recommendations will be fully highlighted throughout this paper.
